As of April 2008, the Government of Sri Lanka assumed control of countries primary air carrier. This follows a 10-year agreement with Emirate, who withdrew its 43% stake in the air line. In essence as a nationalized enterprise, Sri Lankan airline represents both a national symbol as well as a viable revenue generating stream.

The “No to Sri Lanka” campaign appeals to all prospective passengers, including travel agents, to consider that your choice of Sri Lankan Airlines is tantamount to funding military action against Sri Lankan civilian. In support of this global action we request that you examine your options and demand that travel agents provide alternatives to flying Sri Lankan Airlines.

The campaign appreciates that in some instances this may involve additional costs or changes in your travel plans. However, we urge consumers to seek out other cost effective options. More importantly, we urge you to ask yourself if the supposed convenience of traveling with this carrier outweighs the moral and ethical cost of supporting unmeasured military actions against civilians.
